So rabid was his faith, he joined ISIS and committed unspeakable acts in the name of Allah.

But one night, something happened in a dream and it changed everything.

Mohammad was known in his region as a “Prince of ISIS” — someone other members of ISIS swore allegiance to and promised to die for.

His commitment to the cause was unwavering and he inspired other Muslims to follow in his footsteps.

Mohammad had been raised to defend Islam and “to bring back the era of power and conquests” that ISIS members long for.  He helped train radical militant groups for warfare and plotted to abolish all religions except Islam.

It was a way of life for him and he never had to think about his own convictions until someone asked him why he was a Muslim.

That simple question turned his world upside down.

“I had no answer,” Mohammad confessed.  “I began to search the Quran, the Hadith, and the Sunnah.  I wanted to find proof and evidence that Allah exists and Islam is right.”

But a closer examination of Islam’s holy texts yielded no answers for Mohammad.

“I found nothing,” he admitted.

He remembered hearing of a man who ministered to Muslims in his area named Peter who was a staff member from Leading the Way, an organization that spreads the Gospel in the Middle East.  So he called Peter and asked to meet with him.

A Muslim and a Christian missionary—Peter knew that it could be a dangerous meeting.  “I had a strange feeling that he was from ISIS and that he might try to kill me.”

But Leading the Way’s mission is to impact “some of the most unreachable lives in the Arabic world.”

Just as when God spoke to Ananias in Damascus and told him to go to Saul, the famous persecutor of Christians, and lay his hands upon him so that he would regain his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit, when Peter took Mohammad’s phone call, he knew he had to meet with him.

“I had a peace inside that the Lord would protect me, as He had a reason behind this encounter,” Peter said.  He knew he might die, but he trusted God’s plan.

Little did he know that Mohammad was scared, too!

“I wanted to search for the truth,” Mohammad shared, but he also knew that meeting with a Christian could come at a great cost in his radical Muslim community.

Peter wasted no time in sharing the Gospel with Mohammad, bluntly explaining the differences between Islam and Christianity.  Mohammad was afraid and angry at first, wondering why he had decided to meet with a Christian.

But God began to work in his heart, and before long, Peter simply began to pray over Mohammad. It wasn’t long before Mohammad called Peter again, asking to meet a second time. Peter came to their second meeting with trepidation, unsure of what to expect from the Prince of ISIS. But what he heard from Mohammad amazed him.

“I had a dream,” Mohammad shared.  “Peter came to me and gave me a white envelope dripping with blood.  The blood had a good fragrance like musk or perfume.  When I saw the blood, I was scared.”

He continued, “Peter said to me, ‘Don’t be afraid.’”

The dream puzzled Mohammad, but its meaning was clear to Peter.

“Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins,” Peter told him.  The dream was an image of Christ’s sacrifice for the sins of the world.

And Jesus stood ready to forgive Mohammad’s sins!

“What should I do to ask forgiveness?” Mohammad asked.

“The Lord gave it to you for free,” Peter assured him.  “You just need to accept it.”

Mohammad was overwhelmed at the love that God had extended to him.  “I saw love that didn’t exist in Islam,” he marveled.

And he knew he wanted to learn more about it.  His conversations with Peter quickly led to his conversion and baptism.  Now, Mohammad follows Christ and works to lead others around him to the same Savior. “I have found the truth in Jesus Christ,” Mohammad confessed, remembering his search through the Islamic holy books.  “The true book…is the Bible.”

He’s overjoyed to have found peace and joy in his Savior.

Pray for Mohammad’s relationship with God as he disciples other new converts to Christianity, and pray for the continued work of Leading the Way in the Middle East.

May God’s love work powerfully to lead more followers of Islam to Him!
